Wildlife Reserves Singapore - Welcome to the World of Indigenous Animals by Peter Joseph
The Night Safari of Singapore, the Singapore Zoo and the Jurong Bird Park are easily described as the most treasured places of Singapore. These places have given a new definition to the idea of conservation and preservation of nature which should be the primary enterprise of the human species. These places are governed by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore, whose uninhibited strife against cruelty towards nature shows forth in the excellent condition of the parks under its control. In its efforts to save the natural environments, the Wildlife Reserves Singapore has launched many missions which have been undertaken to save endangered species from total annihilation. They are also recognised in the whole world as an organisation which is dedicated to the service of wild animals in need of constant care and support.
The efforts of the Wildlife Reserves Singapore are fully realised in the Singapore zoo which has for decades been the ideal place of restoration of wild animals. The Singapore zoo is managed by the reserve in such a way that it does not in any way compromise on the security an interest of both its inmates and its visitors. Animals are kept here not in cages but in controlled natural surroundings with their first and foremost right. They are cared for by dedicated zoo officials. The visitors on the other hand are given an experience which they remember for a long time. From guided tours to special offers to delectable food; everything has been made available.
Another feather in the cap of the Wildlife Reserves Singapore is the Night Safari. It is the first of its kind and it brings humans in closest possible contact with the wild. Animals kept in this secondary forest are displayed at night when they are most active. Visitors can opt for a walk or a ride. They can also enjoy food at the various eateries and also special tours on the Cocktail or Gourmet Safari express.
The Jurong Bird Park has also benefited under the able guidance of the Wildlife Reserves Singapore. This is the biggest bird park in the world in terms of the number of species that it houses. The bird park has a lot of offers which 'lunch with the pelicans', the monorail, birds of prey show, African Wetlands and flightless birds. The Jurong Bird Park is like an aesthetically landscaped garden which is maintained by the reserve.
The Wildlife Reserves Singapore has received many awards for its continued efforts in the field of wildlife. For example, it has won the Best Leisure Attraction Experience Award 18 times at the Singapore Tourism Awards. It has also won the gold award for the Gourmet Express Safari and the silver award for A Black and White Affair - Dinner with the Penguins at the International Festivals and Events Association. Wildlife Reserves Singapore can easily be said to be the savior of the animal and the leader in conservational activities. It is been working towards teaching all the importance of nature.

Jerusalem
Jerusalem - from King David to Present Day by john@johnhacking.com
Trying to live in Jerusalem has always been a bit of a gamble. The ancient Babylonians, Egyptians and Persians all cast lusty eyes on Jerusalem's wealth. In the seventh century, Moslems conquered the "Holy Land" along with its city sacred to three faiths.
During the Crusades, Jerusalem changed hands often. After the knights of the First Crusade succeeded in breaking through Jerusalem's walls, they killed nearly everyone within them, regardless of religion, killing as many as 40,000.
Today, the Israeli and Palestinian states covet to parts of the city and Jerusalem's bloody, violent history continues. Since 1980, Jerusalem has been the seat of the Israeli government, although all foreign diplomatic missions are based in Tel Aviv in accordance with a UN mandate.
Three major religions live together in Jerusalem, which naturally leads to a multiplicity of points of view. Each religious group is split and subdivided into factions and sects. There are as many as a dozen different Christian splinter groups, the largest of which is the Greek Orthodox community. This diversity of belief should contribute to Jerusalem's attraction, but, in reality, it too often leads to strife and bloddshed. The incredible concentration of sacred sites draw visitors, religious or not, from all over the world.
For Jews and Christians, Jerusalem is the Holy City and the home of their faiths. For Moslems, Jerusalem is the third holiest city after Mecca and Medina. It was the destination of Mohammed's miraculous vouyage to and from Mecca in a single night. Its Temple Mount is the place from which Mohammed ascended to, and returned from, heaven.
Three architectural styles The Old City of Jerusalem was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. It is separated into four districts. The Armenian Quarter occupies the south-west, the Christian Quarter, the north-west, the Jewish Quarter, the south-east and the Moslem Quarter, the north-east.
The wall around the Old City was built on the order of the Ottoman sultan Suleyman the Magnificent in the 16th century. Jerusalem's treasures are so many that only a handful can be mentioned here. The most visited site is probably the Wailing Wall, a 400-metre-long section of the retaining wall of the terrace on top of the Temple Mount where Herod the Great built his great Jewish temple.
This temple was destroyed by the Romans in the year 70 CE. Important pilgrimage sites for Christians include the Via Dolorosa, the name of the path Christ walked on his way to the crucifixion, and the fourth-century Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
One of the most magnificent Islamic monuments is the Dome of the Rock. Erected on the Temple Mount over the place from which the Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven, the Dome of the Rock is not a mosque. The remarkable Al-Aqsa Congregational Mosque, one of the largest and oldest in the world, is located nearby, also on top of the terrace of the destroyed Jewish temple.
More than a lookout The Mount of Olives (Hebrew: Har Ha-Zetim) is a historical hill on the eastern outskirts of Jerusalem. The ridge of hills is within sight of the Old City. The Temple Mount is actually higher than the Mount of Olives, which is just 809 metres above sea level. The Mount of Olives has great significance for all three major religions.
According to the Jewish faith, the Messiah will cross the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem before the Last Judgment takes place in the Kidron Valley. Moslems also believe the Final Judgment will take place there. For Christians, the Mount of Olives is inextricably linked to the life and death of Jesus. Today it plays a more urbane role for many tourists, because its observation deck affords an incredible view of Old Jerusalem.
